Primary School Workshops

A Wildfire Workshop truly creates a fun space in which to learn. Myke engages the students through his drawing skills, storytelling and heaps of facts and trivia.

Students have lots of questions! Myke answers them all! Australian bush creatures, writing, storytelling, Australian culture and endangered species. Cartooning tips, drawing tips, perspective, stylisation vs. realism, how to put human traits in drawings to make them more appealing are all topics of interest. Told, in part, from Myke’s personal experiences, his encyclopedic-like knowledge of creatures (both real & imagined), through drawing and art exploration, a Wildfire Workshop has students spellbound.

_MBG1768Myke highlights how art education can be fun and stimulating. Learning, conversation and curiosity evoke a willingness to explore ideas. From the shyest to the boldest, Myke brings out the best in every student.

These are the different Wildfire Workshop sessions available:
  • create-a-better storyline (storytelling workshop)
  • how-to-draw Australian bush creatures
  • exploring Australian wildlife through drawing endangered species
  • investigating Australian myth. How-to-draw bunyips, myths and monsters
  • exploring tides and rockpool creatures
  • storytime and drawing presentation

Wildfire’s creative vision is to engage kids of all ages, inspire them to take an interest in art, writing and preserving our native wildlife. This is Australia‘s living heritage, and the way Myke does this is through art education and interactive workshops.

“Myke came to our classroom with an in-depth understanding about our topic of ‘Endangered Australian Animals’. He was able to share his extensive knowledge in a fun and interactive way with the students by using his incredible illustrative skills to express the big ideas about deforestation, urban sprawl, climate change and many other key areas.
I appreciated how Myke explored the many issues faced by native animals, and his ability to express the importance of conservation efforts and our duty of care as human beings to share our space with fellow ‘earthlings’.
The students thoroughly enjoyed learning how to draw an Australian animal and they were all pleased with their final piece. Myke kept all the students engaged by asking them important questions, which also helped to check their overall understanding and allow him to take their knowledge further.”

“Myke’s story telling workshop discussed the importance of the draft, edit and publishing stages of writing. He also showed the students how to develop a story line and a character right in front of their eyes; before they knew it the whiteboard was full of characters that all had their own little story!  The kids loved the session and were fully engaged for the whole hour.

After the workshop the students were eager to write their own narratives and the improvement of their character development and their story lines were remarkable.”
